all summer if there is water there. If carried miles away he will hop back to his home. He has quaint ways. It is amusing to see him take his meals. He likes grubs but will not touch a dead one. I would put a live grub near him and watch to see how he would catch and eat it. A toad appears clumsy but he can move quickly when he sees something good to eat within his reach. He will shoot out his tongue, quick, as a flash, and lick in a grub as quick as you can wink; as he swallows it he will give his big eyes a boastful wink, as if he thought himself very wise and smart. Probably somewhat like a boy feels when he catches a fine trout, or brings down some choice game. The toad is a good friend on the farm; he eats great quantities of destructive bugs and grubs and he does no harm. 64
