     SOUTH SIDE FISHING 
     
    
   
   
    
     There would probably be 80 dories used for fishing along 
     
    
   
   
    
     the shoreline from Red Point to North River. The fish were hand- 
     
     barrowed from the dory and emptied into a box called a 
     
     "kit". Then they were gutted and thrown up on a splitting table 
     
    
   
   
    
     where the backbone was removed. The fish were slid into a tub 
     
     of water, washed, and hand-barrowed again to the fish house and 
     
     salted in punchions. After being left here for about two weeks 
     
     they were spread on flakes to dry. The fish were laid face up.

     was a box that would hold about 150 pounds of fish, with 
     
     handles on each side and carried by two men.
