It is worthy of note that Mrs. Alice Gaudet has served as secre—- 1ry for nineteen (19) years.
. Through the years we have been very public minded, helping and entributing to many, many worthy causes. But our first interests (ex— l‘psive of the war years) have been the school. The main part of our funds is gone to buy supplies for the classrooms, such as: books, toilet sup- lies, prizes, blinds, cleaning supplies and vitamin capsules. We have also ought a duplicator, chairs, teacher’s desk, floor polisher and a piano.
In 1952 the ratepayers decided that the school house should be re- Iodelled and enlarged. The Institute met with the trustees and decided 0 take on the project of putting a kitchen and dining area in the base- ient. This was done. We completely furnished the kitchen with silver, ishes, stove, sink, etc. and had tables built in the dining area. A few ears later we assisted in the landscaping of the school grounds, which 1pluded fencing and planting trees. Following completion of this the chool was entered in the Rural Beautification Contest for which we re- eived a prize.
We have helped sponsor the teaching of music in the school for everal years. This has been much enjoyed by the pupils and our appre- iation is expressed to their faithful music teacher, Mrs. Walter Craig. Ve have sponsored Dental Clinics, Water Safety Courses, First Aid and Ibme Nursing Courses, helped with Blood Donor Clinics, Crapaud EX— libition Beauty Contest, and have provided Christmas treats for children ind shut—ins. New babies and new residents are welcomed with a gift, .nd each month the sick in the district are visited and remembered with . treat, while a hospitalized member receives a plant.
‘ , We have always contributed to the W1. Scholarship fund and each u'ne give treats to the school children. We remember anyone in sur— 'ounding districts who has been burned out.
Our contributions have been to any and many appeals that have teen made by worthy and needy organizations. Some of these include: {9d Cross, T.B. fund, Salvation Army, Cancer Fund, Flowers of Hope, 1hest and X-Ray Clinics, U.S«.C. As regards the latter, for several years V have donated layettes and during the past two (2) winters we contri- )§:ed seven (7) layettes each winter. Money is given each year to Engle-
7 d High School as prize money. Donations are also given to the Crapaud D9rts Centre.
