In recent years prizes in the J and P Coates competition were w; by ladies in our Institute namely: Mrs. Kenneth Cameron , Mrs. Roy Ci cliffe, Mrs. George Ceretti and Mrs. Alban Gaudet . To this end the Institute ladies spent much time in knitting tl needed articles, making children's garments and baby layettes, and pac ing boxes of used clothing for overseas. Many quilts were made. It worthy of note that, on more than one occasion, as many as three (3) qui) were made in one afternoon and evening. In 1943, thirty (30) quilts we completed. We tried to contribute to every appeal possible in connecti with the war. The boys who served in the war were given a "welcon home" party and each was presented with a gift. After World War I a monument was erected in the memory of ti ones who made the supreme sacrifice. Since World War II the Institi has had the name of one of our boys, who lost his life, inscribed on tli monument. Each Remembrance Day a service is held at the monume and a wreath placed on it.
