FAMILIES OF AUGUSTINE COVE

As we begin a look into the family histories of Augustine Cove, I; ust be pointed out that each family obtained as much history of their >st0rs as possible. Some were able to get more information than others. rever, all the data received is recorded in the following accounts. It oped that future generation will find these histories informative, if, when, any query about their ancestors might arise.

It is known that in the early 1800’s, families by the following names

15 e in Augustine Cove: Howatt, Cameron, Campbell, Murphy, MacFad- , Thompson, Wadman, Webster, Robsinson. Today, about one hundred Ii seventy years later, families by these names are still residing here.

THE CAMERONS.

Alexander Cameron came to Prince Edward Island in 1783, from the of Barrow, Scotland. The ship he was on was not bound for Char- » stown, P.E.I., but it called there on its way to the United States. l «:ander probably stayed in Charlottetown a little while and then worked li Nay up to Grand River. He married a MacDonald from Barrow before I ing to this country. His family was Presbyterian, but. he turned J holic with his wife and this displeased his family, so he decided to e to America. In this first family there were three boys and two girls, .: iorn before coming to this country. Ronald, the eldest was twelve 'f: s old, when they came to this country. He married Annie McInnis \1 Cape Traverse, settled first there, afterwards moving to Grand River. is buried at Miscouche. Ronald and Annie had nine children one of V m was James, who was born on December 25, 1815. He married Mary \3 1 Hudson of Tryon in 1845. They lived in Tryon and their family of sons and three daughters were all born there. The family was as

',::ren Lord, Elmira, Jabez. The eldest, known as Wheelock, or G.W.W., 46-1916) married Sara Clark in 1868. They moved to this district in and bought the farm owned by Thomas Clark. This property is now led by the MacDonald Bros. '

53 T0 Wheelock and Sara were born one daughter and two sons, Mary, ifzemas and Austin. .

Mary (1871—1948) married Major Carruthers and lived in Augus- C0V6: (See Carruthers history).

Artemas (1872-1954) was twice married. His first wife was Minnie e CElllbeck whom he married in 1898. To them were born five children; _Was stillborn, and one died as an infant. The surviving children are: -1an Gladys, who was born October 22, 1903. She married Brent Carr
