FAMILIES OF AUGUSTINE COVE As we begin a look into the family histories of Augustine Cove , I ust be pointed out that each family obtained as much history of their I istors as possible. Some were able to get more information than others. U ever, all the data received is recorded in the following accounts. It I oped that future generation will find these histories informative, if, n when, any query about their ancestors might arise. It is known that in the early 1800's, families by the following names ie 9 in Augustine Cove : Howatt, Cameron, Campbell, Murphy, MacFad- 'e , Thompson, Wadman, Webster, Robsinson. Today, about one hundred I seventy years later, families by these names are still residing here. The history of these families, and of the other families living here a , as well as some who lived here through the years but are now de- e| ed or moved away, will be found on the following pages. THE CAMERONS Alexander Cameron came to Prince Edward Island in 1783, from the si of Barrow, Scotland . The ship he was on was not bound for Char- 1 otown, P.E.I. , but it called there on its way to the United States. I and bought the farm owned by Thomas Clark . This property is now w!!ed by the MacDonald Bros . WHEELOCK CAMERON HISTORY To Wheelock and Sara were born one daughter and two sons, Mary, "temas and Austin. M Mary (1871-1948) married Major Carruthers and lived in Augus- «fe Cove (See Carruthers history). .. Artemas (1872-1954) was twice married. His first wife was Minnie ^e Callbeck whom he married in 1898. To them were born five children; ^1 was stillborn, and one died as an infant. The surviving children are: ijian Gladys, who was born October 22, 1903. She married Brent Carr W lives in Tryon . Leith was born November 26, 1905. He married 47
