THE CARRUTHER’S

Thomas Carruthers, a native of Dumfries Shire Parish, Scotla« with his wife Elizabeth Lait and six of their seven children emigrated‘ this country in 1820. They landed at Carleton Point and built a home f themselves a few hundred yards from the shore directly east of the ire , ent Borden breakwater. Tradition has it that the name of the ship . which they crossed was the “Hector” and that she was lost at sea on htb ' next voyage.
