The Wadman’s who settled in Augustine Cove were descendants g William Wadman of Charlottetown, and, as a matter of fact, nearly .3 the Wadman’s in Canada and the United States came from him 01‘ brother, Francis Neptune Wadman, who settled in Five Islands, N0. Scotia in 1801. Their parents have not been identified. The name, WW man, is Middle English; a wad man was a “dyer with” or “seller ‘1 woad,” a blue dye stuff obtained from the plant called woad, in W demand in the middle ages.
