more distinctive and outstanding name for the dis¬ trict. At a meeting called to decide the issue, Mr. Murray Auld proposed Belmont, which was adopted. Belmont had no post office; the mail being distributed from Office, but now an office was opened with Mr. Daniel Fraser as Postmaster, the mail coming twice weekly. After some years it came three times, then daily and finally to our daily mail delivery from Miscouche Post Office, as at present. Our telephone line was first built by the Belmont District in 1909 which was taken over by the P. E. I. Telephone Co., in 1925. In 1953 electricity was brought into the district, which has been one of the greatest forward movements yet invented. We now have in our district beautiful . It is situated at Charles Point , better known to local residents as Winchester's Cape, and is one of the lovelist spots anywhere on Prince Edward Island , with its perfect wading and swimming beaches on either side. Agriculture is the main works of the people of the district, producing crops of potatoes, hay, grains and also many cattle, with the milk and beef breeds. Belmont participates in a large Community Pasture of 3*»7 i acres, which is in the Lot 16 Central district - bordering on the northwest side of ours and providing pasturage for many cattle. At the present time there are 38 families (about 60% are farmers) living in this district. 14
