and so are making better citizens in our country. BEWONT WOMEN 'S INSTIUTE The Belmont Women 's Institute was organized on June 17, 1931 at a meeting held in Belmont School. This meeting was led by Marion Hardy, our local school teacher, with an attendance of six ladies present. The following officers were elected: President - Mrs. Ernest Inman Secretary - Treasurer - Etta Simmons Auditors - Mrs. Arnett Simpson Mrs. Robert MacLaurin Besides the above mentioned women the following is the list of those who became members the first year: Mrs. Seymour Thompson Mrs. Winfield Gamble Mrs. James Higgins Enid Inman Mrs. Harry Best Ruth Simpson ( Mrs. A.S. Johnson ) Minnie Simpson ( Mrs. Major Barrett ) Mrs. Budd Birch Mrs. Frank Simmons Vesta Barrett Miss. Johnson Mrs. Major Barrett Mrs. Budd Birch During World War II we gave of our time and money in the work of the , sewing and knitting, packing gift parcels for our boys. We a 'so sent food parcels to our less fortunate sister institute members in England . At the end of the Wa r the members continued knitting and sewing for the Red Cross Society and are still doing the same. 41
