ITEMS OF INTEREST FIRSTS IN BELMONT The first registered cattle in Canada were landed at Charles Point (now ) and were driven through the woods to Richards in . Some of them were sent to Ontario and their off-spring spread to all parts of Canada . The first tuber unit machine on P.E.I , for cutting potatoes to plant, was designed and built by Claude and Glen Ramsay in the year 1939-40. In 1959-60 Harley Gamble and Ernest Inman built the first four row tuber unit machine in Belmont. The first car in Belmont was a Model T. Ford owned by Mr. Fred Inman in the year 1918. The first radios in Belmont were owned and constructed by Mr. Arnett Simpson and Mr. Albert Fraser in the year 1922. The first self-feeder shaker and straw blower, in one unit, was built in 19^8 by Ivan Clark and Aage Johnson. Our district was wired for electricity in 1953. This is a great benefit to both housewives and farmers. John D. MacLeod had the first television set in Belmont. He purchased it in the United States in 1955. The first two farmers to raise fur-bearing animals were Judson Simpson and Hensley Clark . Foxes and raccoons were raised by Mr. Simpson and mink by Mr. Clark .
