dry clothes, which caused his death.
In 1885, Rose Hill was bought by John MacKinnon, who, with his sons, Major and Arthur, held it till 1905, when they sold it to George Inman, and moved to Tracadie.
George's son, Fred Inman, owned it until 1953, when Winfield and Harley Gamble, the present owners, bought it to add to their farm, making a total acreage of 168.
It is interesting to note that while MacKinnons and lnmans owned the farm, they operated a post office in the house. This was in the early 1900's.
V Also, the wild roses which gave the farm its name are still growing along the fence which runs to the shore.
HISTORY (F BELMONT PARK _ WINCHESTER’S CAPE
Belmont Park, a perfect and picturesque camping spot overlooking Malpeque Bay, is situated on Winchester's Cape which juts into Malpeque Bay at the junction of the Bay with Grand River.
Winchester's Cape has at its head the famed ship's l'Mull Rock” the site where the original Scottish settlers tied their pioneer ship. Rum running activities were also carried on from this cape during the late eighteenth century and also during the prohibition era. In fact James Yeo, the notorious lumber baron, shipbuilder and merchant, owned the Cape in the 1880‘s. Mr. Yeo then passed the land to his employee, Isaac Winchester, who farmed the land and fished the seas to earn a living. lsaac's daughter Carrie, Mrs. Frank Goodrow and her husband farmed the land for a time.
Prior to Mr. Yeo's ownership of the Cape it was in the hands of the original Scottish settler John Ramsay; also a Mr. MacNeill owned the land.
In the early 1900's Dr. John MacNeill purchased the land; the land was tended by Mr. Chris Higgins and later by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Perry.
