This well-known business firm was established by Mr. Lemuel E. Prowse in 1881 and five years later took his brother, Benjamin C. Prowse

into partnership with him.

During his life—time the late L. E. Prowse was a member of the Pro— vincial Legislature representing Charlottetown and in 1908 was elected as Federal member for Queens. In 1911 Mr. Prowse retired from politics to devote his full time and energy to the thriving business which he had

established.

His brother and partner, Benjamin C. Prowse, also had a distin— guished career in public life, serving as Mayor of Charlottetown from 1908—1910 and was then appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1911.

On the death of L. E. Prowse in 1925, Senator Prowse became Presi- dent of Prowse Bros. Ltd, which position he held until his death in 1930 when T. W. L. Prowse, the son of the founder of the business, became

President.

T. W. L. Prowse also combined a business and public career, serving for 10 years on the City Council and being elected Mayor of Charlottetown in 1930. He also served for eight years in the Provincial Legislature as a member of the Executive Council representing Charlottetown. Mr. Prowse was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island in 1950, a position which he still holds. ~

Mr. H. H. Jewell is now manager of this well-known firm, having been appointed to this position upon Mr. Prowse’s appointment as Lieutenant G0vernor. l\'Ir. Jewell has been a member of the firm for over 25 years and in addition is Chief of the Charlottetown Fire Department.

This well—known firm has grown with the City of Charlottetown until it has developed into one of the foremost establishments of its kind in the Maritime Provinces.
