“Chik-un—ik-pe,” the Destroying Giant, was the name given the great waterfall at the headwaters of the St. John river by New Brunswick Indian tribes years ago. (It is now the site of Grand Falls). Legend is that a Maliseet girl, captive of a Mohawk raiding party, led the 500 enemy braves over the raging cataract on pretence of guiding them to the main village of her people. Too late the lVIohawks heard the thunder of the great waters, saw their fragile canoes twisted, broken >— then swept to destruction on the rocks below. Historical legend is only part of the appeal that New Brunswick has for visitors. There’s eye-catching scenery, warm salt—water bathing, up-to—date accommodations, and cheery hospital— ity. There’s everything for a grand vacation.
