1913~The destruction on March 8th, of St. Dunstan’s Cathedral was a severe loss to the City and occasioned great damage to the surround~ ing buildings.
1929—Night of January 12th. The Victoria Hotel, Charlottetown’s largest hotel, was completely destroyed by fire.
1931—A major portion of F alconwood l\Iental Hospital was destroyed by fire during the night of December 14th. The Fire Department fought this fire without the benefit of the city water supply. Fire hydrants and mains were later installed and connected with the Charlottetown water supply.
1932—Prince of Wales destroyed on February 6th. It was replaced by a fine new fire resistant building on the same site.
1941—The Agricultural Hall and School supply on Fitzroy Street were totally destroyed by fire on November 5th.
1946—During the night of October 10th. The almost total destruction of Bruce Stewart and Company’s plant, the destruction of the Island Fertilizer Plant and damage to the W. D. Gillis coal warehouse by fire, gave the Department one of its hardest battles. The loss was estimated at $250,000.00.
1946—The City and Province suffercd another severe loss in the destruc— tion of two—thirds of the Davis and F raser’s meat processing Plant and cold storage on Grafton Street. On this occasion, Ivan W atters, an employee of the above firm, gave his life in a futile attempt to close a fire door designed to retard the spread of fire.
