26 September, 1923 - Prof, Fletcher to teach music in Prince • Street School. School to pay /glQQ g nd Bo-^rd 350 annually. Prof. Cleworth and Prof. Ball each taught music here for a short time. March, 1926 - Principal Rogers reported that E. Lillian McKenzie was teaching music at Prince Street School. Her matchless teaching enriched the lives of Prince Street School boys and girls for 3^ years. September, i 960 - George Thompson appointed to Prince Street School staff. If memory serves, it was not until well on in the I9^0fs that the Board contributed more than $50 a year for music instruction. This brief run-down makes the point that while the other city schools, with the possible exception of Rochford Square School which come under the Board in 1916, were receiving sporadic music-1 instruction, this school had almost continuous professional instruction during its whole 90 years,•largely at the school's request and expense. When professional instruction was not avoliable, I understand two classroom teachers conducted music classes. I could cite many other instances to demonstrate "internal" initiative, but I shall mention onle a few:- • (1) Purchase of playground equipment. (2) Our activities throughout the winter months at the Sports Arena. (3) Having our own Sports Director, Mr. Turner , to whom we pay o small honorarium though it is in no way commensurate with the time given. ] ■■■.
