Rutherford Cotton

Rutherford Cotton, 1891-1960, son of William Cotton and Ca ;h- erine (MacKenzie) Cotton, married Catherine Taylor, Stan ey Bridge, born 1903. They had a daughter Emily, born 1936, vsho married Robert Morrison, New London. They have six children

In addition to farming, Rud was also a carpenter and mzny buildings in the surrounding area are a tribute to his skill. He was the foreman in the building of Long River United Church in 1928. When they disposed of their farm in Clinton, they moved to New London, where they operated a general store and kept ’ihe

_ In 1946, the R. Cotton property was purchased by Ian Han- derson, born 1919, son of Henry and Frances (Durant) Henderson, Margate. Ian had just received his discharge from the army vith a term of duty overseas with the rank of corporal. He married Alma Paynter, born 1919, Long River, and they have three mil- dren: Faye, Carol and a son Glen.

Faye, born 1946, is an NA. and has practiced her profession on the Island and several other provinces.

Carol, born 1949, is married to Kenneth Jollimore, Spring- brook. They have one child.

Glen, born 1950, is employed in Alberta.

The barn now standing on this property was built in 1356 with an addition in 1970.

East of the James Warren farm was the farm owned by J ohn Sutherland. This farm stretched from the South West River, crossed the New London Road and extended to the Graham’s Foad farms. It is now owned by Ian Henderson.

John Sutherland

John Sutherland was married to Elizabeth MacKay, a sister of Hugh S. MacKay’s wife, who lived alongside them. They had the following family: William, Robert, George, Margaret Ann and Janet.

Will married Esther Huston Bell, 1873-1966, and they had four children.

Robert married a Miss Dietrich. They lived in Lawrence' Mass, and had one child.

George married Janet Elliott, Elliotts. They had four children! Margaret Ann died when eighteen years old.
