PROPERTY OF U.P.E.I. PREFACE The year 1964 marks the one hundredth anniversary since the Fathers of Confederation met in our capital city for their eventful meeting — the Charlottetown Conference . It is a year in which the minds of all Islanders are turned back to the good old days. We, the pupils of Indian River School, have undertaken to write the history of our district as a Centennial Project. It has required a great deal of time, effort, and patience, but we are both happy and proud to know that we have completed the first written history of our district. Information, for our project was obtained from a variety of sources. These sources included reading books, writing letters, talking to residents, collecting old photographs, taking pictures and looking up information in church records; scrapbooks, diaries, and school records. Everyone that we contacted has been most co-operative to give us what information he or she knew. We have everyone talking and discussing history of his or her family and district. Now that we have completed our history we have feelings of debt and gratitude to our forefathers and parents for the wonderful community in which we live, work and play. In future years, the reading of this district history will bring back to us many of the memories of our schooldays in the winter of 1964. So to all of you we say: "Come and walk with us today On the road to yesterday. The years speed swiftly by So let's read of the past you and I". Pupils of Indian River School, (Teacher) Sheila Jean Dunphy .
