QUIET! AFTER A STORM "Monday Morn - February 27, 1961" Oh! for a glimpse of a beautiful sight After the storm that came in the night A morning so bright a crest pure and clean An odor of sweetness and peace serene. Everything covered with ice and snow So much, so much you could not go Not even a bird in the air, they all seemed still Not coming to tweet on your window sill. The icicles on all the trees Were not marred by a breeze Oh what a thick blanket of snow With the sun shining brightly making every thing glow. The wires dropped down to the ground And no one could hear an even sound Trees and woods were icy bound In strewd appearance as they shone around. Road lanes blocked if you attempted you'd be draggin The only car that moved was Orville's little Volkswagen No plows, no trains, no planes in sight Their appearances will be hoped for over another night. Tho this peace and quiet with beauty rare Gives us much contentment beyond our share As the world goes by from day to day We are ever anxious for what the next has to say. HOW TO HELP OTHERS There are many very well-intentioned people who wish to exert a good influence on others. However, they all too often start off on the wrong foot. When they ought to be giving their undivided attention to the other they find themselves preoccupied with what they are going to say or how they are going to act. Precisely what is their attitude both in regard to themselves and in regard to the other? If they feel themselves to be in every way superior to the other, they are thereby doomed to failure. A pose of condescending compassion will prove equally ineffectual. Only humility can ultimately succeed, for only the humble man is prepared to love the other and to seek out in him those oftentimes hidden riches which are the gift of God. 58
