RECENT SETTLERS 1 HAROLD LEAHY Harold Leahy came to Indian River in March 1972. He and his wife, Betty, were born in St. John , N .B. He is Credit Assistant Manager at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Kensington and has served in this capacity at Char- lottetown and Summerside . They have three children: Margaret Ann, John Andrew and Mark. Mrs. Leahy is a nurse and is a member of the In¬ dian River Women 's Institute. Mr. Leahy is a member of the Board of Trade and Lions Club at Kensington ; also a leader in the Boy Scouts. In April 73 he was transferred to the Bank at Havelock , N.B. READY Fred Ready was born in Irishtown , P.E.I. , son of Michael and (Jose¬ phine MacKinnon) Ready. There was one girl and five boys in the family: Frank, Bernard, William, Henry, Fred and Lillian. Fred farmed on the home¬ stead until 1952, then he bought the old Indian River School and converted it into a store and living quarters and moved to Indian River where he ran a successful grocery business for twenty years. Fred retired in 1972 and now makes his home with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Hickey , Indian River , SOMERS Elmer Somers was the son of George and Laura Somers. He came to Indian River from Clinton in 1951. He is married to and they have two sons and one daughter. They bought the John Tuplin farm (by the mill) and lived there for eleven years, then moved to Clermont where they now reside. The two boys attended school in Indian River ; also at Kensing¬ ton High. Phillip is with R.C.A.F . (Flying officer) trained at C.M.R. Quebec . Ronald attended Truro Agricultural College and is now manager of Ralston Purina Company at Sussex . Both are married. Trudy was born in Clermont ; she now attends elementary school at Kensington . Mrs. Somers was a member of the Women 's Institute when she lived in Indian River . SINCLAIR Clarence Sinclair was born at Hamilton , P.E.I. , son of John and Eliza (Taylor) Sinclair. He married Martha Simmons of Darnley and they bought the Peter Hickey farm and moved to Indian River to live. They had one son, Earl, and they brought up Martha's niece, Nancy, (see MacKenzie). After Martha's death Clarence sold the land to David Ramsay of Hamilton , P.E.I. , but lived in the house for a number of years, then sold it to John Hickey , bought a trailor, and moved back to Hamilton , P.E.I , to live. 82
