DRAMA CLUB In the winter of 1948 "Deacon Dubbs" was rehearsed in Ken¬ sington with Mrs. Leo Hughes as Director, with such players as Watson MacNaught , Waldron Darrah , Roscoe Walker , Hilda Ramsay , Blanche Hughes , Marion Phillips , Roy Phillips , Adelaide Glover , Blair Hessian , Bernard MacLellan , Erroll Thomson. With the coming of television people got to staying home and watching T.V. Live plays were forgotten, except for the ones presented at Confederation Center. This year 1973, people are asking "Where are the plays that were presented in our local halls at St. Patrick's?" Will 1973 see a return of the three-act plays? We hope so. THE VALUE OF A SMILE It costs nothing but creates much. It enriches those who receive without impoverishing those who give. None are so well off that they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits. It creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and nature's best remedy for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody until it is given away. To smile then is to look at others with the eyes of Christ. To know how to love them and smile at them, through our tears if need be, is to breathe in advance the atmosphere of heaven. TAKE NO CHANCES Visitor: Is your father at home? Little Daughter: What's your name please. Visitor: Oh. just tell him its his old friend Bill. Little Daughter: Well no, I heard him tell Mama if any bills came he wasn't at home. 89
