Up to 1900 there was no play ground; a subscription list of that date shows that $22.85 was collected to buy the land between the school and Kensington Road. Tall spruce trees were along the Mill road. The teach-er William I. Green and the big boys cut the trees down and stumped and levelled the ground. Mr. Green later was a missionary to Trinidad. Dr. George Green, a brother to Wm., was our next teacher.

Reading from the minutes of the annual meeting in 1902 we see that the teachers supplement was $20.00, receipts $63.90 and expendi- tures $56.72. Hauling the coal and sold for 70 cents per ton and banking of the school, care of outside doors and windows and removing in Spring was sold for $1.00. Cost of these ,iobs changed little from year to year.

By 1914 there were over sixty pupils in the district and an extra room and teacher were added. By 1930 there were not enough pupils and one room was closed. Teachers supplements in 1929 were $125.00 principal and $100.00 for assistant; receipts $598.00 and expenditures $478.95.

In 1949 the road was widened taking the pump and a lot of the school ground so an acre of land was bought from Vernon Paynter and the school was moved across the road and the hall moved down to the

school ground.
