Louis Charles Jenkins, a young Anglican Minister, was instru¬ mental in founding the New London Parish and erecting the first church and preached in a log school house and church on manv occasions from 1821 to 1833. He bought a farm in Long River now owned by Ralph Thompson , his son John T. farmed here several years, his chief interest was rais¬ ing and training race horses. In 1847 John T. decided to study medicine and went to England and studied under his uncle, Henry Jenkins , he graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1851 and served with the medical staff in Crimea. His father sold the farm to William Manderson for 120£ ($384.00). Manderson came from Miramichi, N.B. and was a civil engineer. After the war Dr. J. T . practised medicine in Charlottetown , bought the Upton farm and had a race track, a great horseman he owned and raced some of the best, including Royal Harry and Develish Dorothy. Dr. J. T . was in the local Legislature from 1867-1875 and was elected to the House of Commons in 1883. Dr. Jenkins was a kindly man. In his late years he started the Coal Fund for needy families. Dr. J.T .'s son Dr. S.R . was a leading surgeon in Charlottetown for many years and a grandson Dr. John distinguished himself in the 1st World War. In 1931 Dr. John established Upton Airport and his Puss Moth plane C.F .— P.E.I , carried the 1st air mail. ROBERT FITZSIMMONS Michael Fitzsimmons Sr. , and his wife Bridget Kent immigrated from Ireland late in the fall of 1840 not having time to secure a farm and build a house before Winter set in, he dug a large hole in the bank of the S.W.
