MARGATE W.I. ORGANIZATION In the Spring of 1930 a number of the ladies of Margate school dis¬ trict thought they would like to work together for Home and Country. Accordingly Miss McPhail , the Supervisor of Women 's Institutes on P.E.I. was notified and in due time a meeting of all ladies of the district was called for afternoon, May 12th in the schoolhouse and our branch to be known as W. I. was organized. Of the eighteen members attend¬ ing, thirteen joined as charter members and all the others joined later. The first officers appointed were as follows: President — Mrs. F. D. Marks Vice President — Mrs. Harry Brown Secretary Treasurer — Mrs. Heath Mayhew Directors — Mrs. John Johnson , Mrs. Gordon Woodside , Mrs. Heath Mayhew Auditors — Mrs. Alfred Mayhew , Miss Rebecca Fitzsimmons . Meetings have been held regularly once per month through the years. For some time members joined this group from Clinton, and Spring Valley but these districts now have branches of their own. We have al¬ ways done what we could for Home and Country, concentrating a large part of our efforts on the school. During the war years and since, we have worked for the and always donated to every worthy cause. Money was made from plays, socials, food sales, ice cream, etc. Looking back through the years, we can truthfully say we have had happy times together and it is our wish that we may continue the good work for "Home and Country".
