Gene Crane

The property on the Margate Corner, opposite the Church Ceme- tery was first lease held by Wm. Tuplin. Next occupied by Reuben Tuplin (mentioned elsewhere).

In 1877 it was purchased by John Durant. His wife and family are mentioned elsewhere.

Mr. and Mrs. Durant operated the Post Office in their own home and this was continued over the years by Nina, their daughter, until the Post Office was closed at Margate.

Nina married Lea Crane of Vernon River and they lived in the Dur-

ant homestead, and were the next owners in 1926. Later a new home was built.

Their family are: Earl in Halifax, N.S.; Louise (mentioned else- where) ; Gene and Floyd in Halifax, N.S.

Gene is now the owner of this property, purchasing it from his father and mother in 1971. His father and mother are now residing in

Halifax, N.S.

David Woodington

At one time this property was owned by a Mr. Houston. It was later sold to William Cousins. He married Florence Paynter. They had two children:

Jennie (Mrs. Rex Kielly of Charlottetown).

Everett (married Evelyn Donald of Sea View.) They had two children. Dianna and Heather.

Everett died in 1968 and the farm was sold to Rendal Casely and the house was purchased by David Woodington. David married Alice Petti— grew. They have two children. Nancy and Lisa.

Roy Tuplin

This farm was formerly owned by his father, Andrew Tuplin. Andrew’s wife was Minnie Paynter. They had four children:

Roy married Maude Bryanton of Spring Valley.

(Tiny) Christine —— (Mrs. Charles Mills) -— U.S.A.

Harry married Eliza Champion and later Hazel Moase.

Mae (Mrs. Albert Doherty) -—— U.S.A.

Roy and Maude have two children namely: Evelyn (Mrs. Bill Bell) Long River. Elwood married Marie Sudsbury.

A new home was built on this farm in 1939 by Harry Tuplin. The old homestead burned in 1943 and Roy bought the new house, in which he still resides. A new barn was built in 1947.
