PREFACE The following account gives some information concerning an area of Prince Edward Island which has been seriously neglected in various historical accounts. Being one of the first British settlements and having succeeded quite well, the area was one of the most prosperous and developed areas on the Island during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. This account covers the early settlement as we know it from available sources, including family tradition. There are several accounts concerning families who settled in the area. There was no intent to select certain families but many families do not have records of their ancestors and research through newspapers and church records and tombstones is slow. No individual nor family has been intentionally omitted or misrepresented in any way. Once again, any errors or omissions are unintentional and regrettable. G. H. Kielly Stanhope, P. E. I.
