It was admirably situated as a base from which to prosecute the

Gulf Fisheries, and the energies of the proprietors of Lot 18,

who as early as this had bought out over 200 settlers, who had

done much to strengthen this idea. Some of them got their

children baptized regularly by Mr. DesBrisay; some would not

employ him on any account; and others did not know what to do.

Some, after waiting for the chance of a Presbyterian minister

till they had four children, gave up hope and applied to him.

"To some I baptized two, three, four and to one man six

children."

Rev. M. DesBrisay performed many marriages as well among

the early Settlers.
