WESLEYAN METHODIST CHURCH

Little is known about the founding of the Wesleyan Methodist Church but it is believed that in 1829 a Methodist Society existed

at Covehead with William Bovyer as leader and the following class

members.

The following quotation from the deed of a property shows other

family names who followed the Methodist faith.

The Deed of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, states that

on the twentyseventh day of May in the year of Our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy, John Curtis Douglas, of Covehead, Lot 34, Queens County, in the Island of Prince Edward Island, for the sum of five pounds, lawful money, conveyed to John Hughes, Henry Green, Cornelius Higgins, Harry Auld, George Alexander, David Douglas, and David Foster, a parcel of ground, upon which the Wesleyan Methodist Church now standeth and adjoining the Burying Ground, given to the Trustees of the aforesaid Wesleyan Methodist Church, by Thomas Fosterm yeoman of the same place aforesaid. etc.

The Deed was registered on the 27th day of May, A. D. 1870. Folio 796 and 799
