According to literature, it was accidentally discovered and cleaned up by workmen a few years ago. However, all elder citizens were quite aware of the cemetery's existence and regard this "discovery" as a joke. Many of the early settlers are buried in this cemetery. In 1790, Catherine McKay , who died while visiting at Oyster Bed, was taken by canoe to where she was interred in the cemetery.
