"Disasters" The catalogue of wrecks during the late terrible gale has been swelled to a frightful extent during the past week, by the accounts received from various parts of the Island, particularly the northern shores. We have heard no estimate of the value of the property destroyed, but it must be enormous, as there have been about 50 or 60 vessels totally or partially wrecked. Nor have we been able to ascertain the number of lives lost — very many bodies, we fear, having found their final resting place beyond the reach of human ken. We sincerely sympathise with those who have survived the calamitous gale, to seek shelter and hospitality on our shores, and to lament the loss of friends and companions, as well for the destruction, perhaps of the fruits of much toil, industry and perseverance. The Government are taking energetic measures to secure the wrecked property to its rightful owners, and to prosecute those miscreants who are willing to thrive by the calamities of others, from the wrecks. We insert below a list of the Wrecks as we have gleaned them from the papers of the past weak and other sources of information.
