GREGOR FAMILY OF POINT, LOT 33 Peter Gregor was born in Scotland , some time before 1738. He came to Brackley Point with his family in 1771 or shortly therafter. A history of Brackley Point , written by one of the McCallums, says, " Duncan McCallum married a daughter of Peter Gregor , who came to the Island a short time after the McCallums (who came in 1771) and bought the farm adjoining that of his son- in-law." The census of April, 1798, shows that the household of Peter " Greggor " in Lot 33 consisted of eight persons, two males under 16 years of age, one male aged 16 to 60, and one male aged over 60; and one female under 16 years of age, two females aged 16 to 60, and one female aged over 60. The entry'is difficult to interpret, since the three known children of Peter Gregor were already married and no longer in his household. The two persons aged over 60 were undoubtedly Peter Gregor and his wife, whose name is unknown. The others in the house were perhaps an un¬ married daughter and a married daughter with her husband and three children. But this interpretation may be incorrect. The known children were Janet, who married Duncan McCallum in 1784, Margaret, who married John McGregor in 1790, and James, who married Isabella Howatt in 1798. Peter Gregor 's death was noted by Benjamin Chappell in his Diary, now in the Charlottetown Library : "Dyed old Peter McGriggor , October 29, 1799." The date of his wife's death is not known. ."■ i 'j *o ftwotd >mt>t «||w iiri hnt, 82
