FAMILY OF DUNCAN MCEWEN, SE.
Duncan McEwen was born in or near Muthill, Perthshire, about 1745. He married there, probably in 1769 or early 1770, Jennet McLaren, who was born about 1750 and died at St. Peter's, about 1810. They were both passengers on the "Falmouth" in 1770, to- gether with a William McEwen, probably Duncan's brother. William McEwen was accidentally killed at Three Rivers, 2 Aug. 1770.- Duncan McEwen did not remain with the other settlers at Covehead, but moved to St. Peter's, Lot 39. He was a member of the House of Assembly on at least two occasions, in or before 1784 and in 1803. On 1 Dec. 1809 he bought 600 acres of land in Campbellton, New London, Lot 21, and moved there with some of his children about 1812. He married second, about 1812, Jennet McGregor, daughter of John and Margaret (Gregor) McGregor of Black River, Lot 33, and granddaughter of Peter Gregor of Brackley Point,
Lot 33. John McGregor also came on the ”Falmouth”. Janet McGregor was born 4 Apr. 1792 and was baptized by Rev. DesBrisay, 31 Mar. 1793. Duncan McEwen died at Campbellton, New London, 15 Mar. 1831, aged 85 years. His will, dated 9 Mar. 1831, Was proved 25 Mar. 1831. He had eleven children, seven sons and four daugh- ters, by his first wife and three sons by his second wife. His widow Janet married second, about 1835, James Doyle of Clifton,
New London, and third, a Mr. Cameron of Clinton, near Norboro,
