FAMILY OF DUNCAN MCEWEN , SR. , " 'c ;.- •->><£ ,*' ,, ;< - * ,.. ,<#r. ., (. Duncan McEwen was born in or near Muthill, Perthshire, about 1745. He married there, probably in 1769 or early 1770, Jennet McLaren , who was born about 1750 and died at St. Peter 's, about 1810. They were both passengers on the "Falmouth" in 1770, to¬ gether with a William McEwen , probably Duncan's brother. William McEwen was accidentally killed at Three Rivers, 2 Aug. 1770. Duncan McEwen did not remain with the other settlers at Covehead , but moved to St. Peter 's, Lot 39. He was a member of the House of Assembly on at least two occasions, in or before 1784 and in 1803. On 1 Dec. 1809 he bought 600 acres of land in Campbellton , New London , Lot 21, and moved there with some of his children about 1812. He married second, about 1812, Jennet McGregor , daughter of John and Margaret (Gregor) McGregor of Black River , Lot 33, and granddaughter of Peter Gregor of Brackley Point , Lot 33. John McGregor also came on the "Falmouth". Janet McGregor was born 4 Apr. 1792 and was baptized by Rev. DesBrisay , 31 Mar. 1793. Duncan McEwen died at Campbellton , New London , 15 Mar. 1831, aged 85 years. His will, dated 9 Mar. 1831, was proved 25 Mar. 1831. He had eleven children, seven sons and four daugh¬ ters, by his first wife and three sons by his second wife. His widow Janet married second, about 1835, James Doyle of Clifton, New London , and third, a Mr. Cameron of Clinton, near Norboro, P. E. I.
