They were the parents of John McGregor , High Sheriff and Historian of the Island. Or he may have been a younger son of John and Margaret (Gregor) McGregor of Black River , Lot 33. This Joseph McGregor is said to have had a brother Daniel, who lived at Summerville , in Lot 48. Joseph McGregor married, 24 Sept. 1837, Isabella Brown , daughter of John and Isabella (Lawaon) Brown of Covehead and granddaughter of Lawrence and Jean (Jamison) Brown and of William Lawson . Isabella's sister Jane (1798 - 1881) married James McGregor , son of John and Margaret (Gregor) McGregor. Joseph and Isabella (Brown) McGregor lived first in Covehead , where their son Ewen was born in 1846, but they later moved to Lot 48, where they both died and are buried. Her will, dated 30 Jan. 1895 and proved 1 May 1896 (14:44) left $2000 to her sister Susan, wife of Thomas Chandler , and the residue to her cousin Jane Isabella McLeod "who now resides with mfcM. ii David, b. in 1843| d. at Covehead , 27 Dec. 1885, aged 42 years g. s. at West Covehead ); m. Deronda Higgins, daughter of William and Catherine (Leitch) Higgins of Covehead . His grave¬ stone reads, " David McGregor died Dec. 27, 1885, aged 42. Wife Deronda". After his death, his widow moved first to Waltham, Massachusetts , and later to California . 105
