FAMILY OF WILLIAM DOUGLAS , ESQUIRE ■ William Douglas , a native of Dumfries, Scotland , was born around 1750 and came to Prince Edward Island in 1772, at the age of 22 years. He married, about 1779, Catherine (Kitty) Millar, daughter of John Millar of Covehead , Lot 34, who came on the "Falmouth" in 1770. William Douglas acquired a large block of land in Lot 38, where he engaged in farming and stock-raising, and was also agent for Cambridge estate for many years. He was a magistrate and was noted for his energy and common sense. He died at his estate "", in Lot 38, in 1835, aged 85 years. The will of " William Douglas the Elder of the Head of Hillsborough River in Prince Edward Island , Esquire ", was dated 17 June 1834 and proved 20 Feb. 1835. It mentions all his ten children but not his wife, who was probably dead. CHILDREN OF WILLIAM AND CATHERINE ( MILLAR ) DOUGLAS i John, probably the eldest, b. ca. 1780; d. 21 May 1854, at Stanhope , Lot 34 (his will, dated 10 Feb. 1853 was proved 7 Nov. 1862); m. by Rev. DesBrisay , 31 Jan. 1804, Mary Ann Higgins (d. 15 June 1862), daughter of Cornelius Higgins of Covehead . They are buried at West Covehead . ii Thomas, b. ca. 1782; m. by Rev.
