Benjamin Chappell noted in his diary, under date of Friday, 13 May 1814, "Died Mrs. Shaw . She drove her cattle to town to pay the debt on Wednesday the 11th. Went home to the saw mill, grieved and mourned all day on Thursday and died on Friday, and was buried on Saturday. Her husband was buried the same time with Mrs. Pool ."
