The officers in the next two year term were acutely conscious that 1 our educational system needed a com- 9,“ plete overhauling, that meagre spend— ” 0‘ w :1 ing on education was an underlying 3 w ,‘ :1. weakness and that enough qualified teachers would mean good schools. ’. d Hence, we hammered away at the need for a Royal Commission on Education for the province, we publicized the Lazerte Report on Educational Finance, and we addressed high school pupils to influence graduates to enter the teaching profession. Underlying these three objectives was the promotion of the Home and School movement which sought to combat the lethargy, lack of direction and disagreements on remedies for our educational ills. The committee work following the National pattern went forward, gradually becoming a base for an ongoing Home and School movement. 12
