     The Honourahle George William Howlan was born at Waterford, Ireland, in 
     
    
   
   
    
     1835. He came to Prince Edward Island when but four years of age, and 
     
     was educated here. For many years he was a successful merchant, and a 
     
     leading politician. He is a pleasing and forcible speaker; and he occupied. 
     
    
   
   
    
     for a long period, a prominent place in the Senate of Canada. Since his appoint. 
     
     ment to the office of Lieutenant Governour, in the year 1894, he has taken 
     
     a keen and active interest in every movement for the promotion of agriculture 
     
    
   
   
    
     and education; and has become exceedingly popular. His social talents are 
     
    
   
   
    
     those of a warm—hearted and highly intelligent Irish gentleman.
