DesBrisay, Lot 33, according to a survey conducted by John Stewart in I779, still contained few settlers other than the overflow trickle from Lots 34 (Monygomery’s Scottish Highlanders), 35 and 36 (MacDonald townships to

the east).

The latter part of the 18th century saw more immigration, chiefly from England, such that the settlement continued to grow in population and prosperity. In 1797, the House of Assembly resolved that Lot 33 was settled agreeably according to the terms of the grant. The population amounted to one hundred souls and had a total of twelve families. The following is a copy of the survey conducted by Robert Fox, Deputy Surveyor, in 1798.

It was during the 19th century that the various districts comprising Lot 33, began to take shape and grow. In particular, Brackley received an influx of immigrants primarily from the British Isles, each one buying land from the Crown in order to farm. The following is a list of these, the first ”known” settlers in Brackley, stating their date of settlement and nativity.
