Dr. John Francis Martin
in 1880 he was a highly esteemed citizen and leading member of his profession at Eldon, Queen’s County. He was born here in Brackley, the son of Alex and Margaret (Bell) Martin. The father was a native of the Isle of Skye, Scotland, and a son of John Martin who brought his family to P.E.|. in 1820 and located on a farm in lot 33. He had married in his native land Miss Catherin Robinson. Dr. Martin’s father, Alex, was one of 12 children. Upon maturity he married Margaret Bell, daughter of Adam and Mary (Rogerson) Bell, farmers from Lockerby, Dumfries, Scotland. To Alex and Margaret Martin were born six children - John Francis; Donald of Brackley; Duncan of Rossland, B.C.; Mary Helena of Eldon; Georgina, wife of Peter McCallum of Charlottetown Royality; Ambrosia, wife of Archibald McKinnon of Charlottetown.
Thomas Rodd, Esq.
As a boy he emigrated with his parents from London, England in 1804. In 1807 he settled on 75 acres of land in Brackley. The district post office was located here. He married Margaret Bell of Annan, Scotland. He died on May 12, 1883 at 79 years and she died on November 30, 1879 at 78 years of age. Both are buried in the Sherwood cemetery.
Alexander Scott
Born on September 29, 1925, the son of John and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Scott, natives of Perthshire, Scotland who came here in 1806. Alex was brought up on the homestead in Brackley and was educated in Brackley school. Like his father he pursued farming, and by the 1900’s had 250 acres under the plow. He resided on his farm for 50 years with his wife, Jessie, the daughter of Peter and Jessie (Robinson) Scott. He was a staunch conservative who served as a school trustee for a number of years. His religious affiliations were with the Baptist church. Born to he and his wife were seven children - Frank, Peter, Lizzie, Annie, Maggie, Jessie, and Lottie.
