Factories
Co-operative cheese and butter factory.
In 1900, a co-operative cheese and butter factory was established at the Head of the river by the farmers in the area. Unfortunately, a low milk supply forced it to close‘its doors in 1911. ,
A beef cannery operated by Douglas C. Morson, a clam factory operated by Felix Gallant, and a chicken factory operated by Freeman Hewitt were located in Cardigan at one time. It is believed a lobster cannery was located in Cardigan as well as a factory for making cans to be used by the local
factories. Angus Gregor, from New Glasgow, established a branch of the Nonpareil
Carriage Factory and Agricultural Works in the village as well. A steam factory, owned by Messrs. Stiggins and Crawford, was operating in Cardigan around 1875.
