The following year, the church grounds were landscaped and shrubs, pine trees, and flower beds were planted. This year also saw the erection of the Marion Archway , the only such memorial to be built in the diocese of Charlottetown . The labor and materials donated by the parishioners. Blessing of the archway and statues took place Dec. 8, to mark the closing of the Marion Year . The following is taken from the Guardian: Solemn Mass, the blessing and dedication of the Marion Year arch¬ way and statues, and a forceful and impressive sermon climaxed the ceremonies of the Marion Year in All Saints Parish, Cardigan , Wed¬ nesday afternoon. Prior to the Solemn Mass, which was offered by the pastor, Rev. J.P.E. O'Hanley assisted by Rev. J.W. McCardle as Deacon and Rev. Nazaire Gallant as sub-deacon, the ceremony of the blessing of the Marion Year archway and statues of the Blessed Virgin and St . Joseph was carried out by Rev. Owen Kiggins , pastor of the Parish of St . James, Georgetown , and senior priest of Deanery. Rev. J.G. MacCormac , pastor of St . Andrew's Parish delivered a most thought-provoking sermon for the occasion.... He paid glowing tribute to the Catholic people of Cardigan for their initiative, energy and generosity.... He paid very special tribute to John F. Rice , Irving Roche , Harold Roche and James E. Rice (designer of the archway) for the excellence of their workmanship, and more especially for having given their talented services as a donation to this outstanding Marian Year pro¬ ject. He had words of highest praise too for the beauty of the design of the inscription stone prepared by Rev. Mother M. Teresa , C.S.M . and for the skill and excellence of workmanship of Levi V. Power , Monta¬ gue, who transcribed the design into it's tablet of black Swedish granite...... Our priests taking part in the ceremonies were: Rev. F.F.Mullally , P.P. Sturgeon ; Rev.
