brook’s, McCormack’s and Norton’s horses. Norton’s brown horse “Charlie” proved too much for his opponents with McCormack’s a good second. Another race is now spoken of and likely some lively betting will be indulged in.
Sports
Sports have always played an important part in the life of Cardigan. Baseball was as popular among the youth of Cardigan in the past as it is today. The ballfield was situated in many places until All Saints Parish gave permission to use their property near the cemetery as a ballfield. This ballfield is now one of the best on the Island.
A tennis court was built and maintained during the 1930’s and early 1940’s on the land that is now owned by Pauline Shepard. This was used as a skating rink in winter.
During the 1960’s an outdoor skating rink was constructed on the prop- erty where the Craft Centre now exists. This rink was popular with both the youth and adults.
