Dr. Allen because of the snow storm raging at the time. After a second call, and upon hearing of the distress of the woman concerned, he called Iinwood MacNeill, IM^EE^^^H who had made many trips for Dr. Allen , ulflN^^H and they set off to Launching with horse and sleigh. They were met at Launching with a boat. The water had slush and thin ice in it, but the doctor boarded the boat in the darkness and took off for Boughton Island . At daybreak Dr. Allen returned, mission completed. Dr. Allen is known to have made many hazardous trips but this was believed to be one of the worst. Dr. Allen told Dan MacLean about a maternity call he answered in the Bangor area. Of course, the horse was his means of transportation, so he took off early to be there when needed. When he arrived the doctor went into the bedroom and examined the mother-to-be, who was not yet in labour. The woman was nervous because the doctor was there so early. She apparently persuaded herself that something must be very seriously wrong. The doctor tried to calm her and dismiss her fears. He reminded her of Job and suggested she have patience. "That's very well," said the woman, "but Job was never in the fix I'm in."
