Hon. Bennett Campbell
In addition, Mr. Campbell served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Education for Canada in 1975 and Chairman of the Regional Treasury Board Council of Maritime Premiers in 1977.
In Sept. 1978 he was sworn in as Premier and president of the Executive Council, a position he held until May 1979.
Mr. Campbell served as leader of the opposition from May 1979 until Jan. 1981, when he resigned to contest a by- election in the federal riding of Cardi- gan. He was elected to the House of Commons on April 13, 1981. He was a member of the Privy Council and was appointed Minister of Veterans Affairs for Canada on Sept. 22, 1981.
Following the election of 1984, Mr. Campbell entered the insurance field.
After two years, he again offered as a candidate in the provincial election of 1986 contesting the provincial riding of 3rd Kings.
On Aug. 1, 1986, Bennett Campbell was appointed Superintendent of Insurance, a position he holds at the time of this writing.
