On July 25, 1767 lot 47 was granted to Gordon Gra— ham Esq., and Lieut. Col. Robert Porter Esq. 25 This lot was later bought by John Stewart. From the deportation of 1758 to 1785 East Point was unsettled. Inl785, Henry Baxter, William
Burke, and Hugh Peebles applied for and received grants of
‘ land for refugees on lot 47 provided they had not received
land elsewhere. They were disbanded soldiers.26 Only Hugh
Peebles accepted the offer and he became the first English
settler at East Point. 27 He was later joinved by John Ford
Sr. also of Falkirk, Scotland (lowlands) who came in 1804-.28
The later Scottish settlers were primarily from the highlands.
It may be coincidental but it is strange that most early set—

East Point after his marriage to Margaret MacDonald of St.'
Peters Lake. He bought 1,000 acres of land from his relative
Captain Charles Stewart.29 Angus and John MacDonald from
Glencoe purchased six hundred acres of land from John Stewart
on November 15, 1799.50 Allen MacIsaac from the mainland of
Scotland settled on 250 acres of land prior to 1798.51 In 1799
they were joined by Donald Beaton from Lachaber, Scotland. He
