27 It was owned by Christopher Jardine who was the father of James 124 Jardine, Kingsboro . This factory was located next to the Hun. It was operating around 1915* Some of the buildings were left there but today, except for a few boards, 125 there is little trace of the farmer activity in that area. ' A sawmill was owned and operated by Hon . Lauchlan MacDonald on the East Lake Stream. It probably was operated in the 1870's and 1880's. It is shown on the 1880 map.126 Remains of this sawmill are still in evidence today - Lauchlan's brother known as "Big Jack" worked at the mill. He like all of the "Mashes" was a strong and powerful man. He was considered to be a giant of a man. One day a horse slipped near the mill. "Big Jack" was able to put the horse back on its feet due to his 127 brute strength. ' An early blacksmith shop was operated on property own- - i po j ed by Joseph Ford on the East Point Road. ' Joseph's brother John 129 operated a blacksmith shop on his farm at Munn's Road. After the turn of the century a blacksmith job was owned by Fred 130 Cheverie. That forge is still standing. ^ East Point had several Sea Captains in her ranks. They 131 132 133 included John Beaton , v D. Maclean ,' y Ronald Beaton , -^ (who 134 sailed out of Gloucester) and James MacDonald . y The sea trade was healthy during the Repicracity period. East Point , however did not have its own shipbuilding industry. Capt. James 135 later became a farmer. There was a store operated by John MacDonald on the property. He was an uncle to Lauchlan MacDonald .
