1857 John McLean taught at East Point but the school visitor was not impressed with his teaching. In 1858 James Munro taught at gas: Point. In 1859 James fiorrow assumed the teaching duties.
The school was closed in 1860 and 1861 because a teacher was not found. However, in 1862 a Miss MacDonald taught. John MacLean was attending normal school. In 1863 and 1864 James Beaton and
Daniel MacDonald of East Point attended normal school. In 1865,
_and 1866 James Beaton filled the vacancy. The school visitor
stated that "Mr. Beaton has their respect, and well deserves it." Mr. Beaton had about 55 students on the roll.172 However in the years 1867 ~ 1874 the school was vacant. In 1874 the school was opened with Raymond McPhee as teacher and there were 55 students registered. All of the students took reading, nineteen students wrote on slates; twenty two took arith- metic; eleven took grammar; nine pupils were in georgraphy; twelve took dictation, recitation had twenty five students and only two students took book—keeping. In 1875 four more students were re— gistered and Raymond McPhee remained as teacher. In the years 1877, 1878 and 1879, Mary M. Ford taught school. About 80%w90% of the school age children in the district were enrolled. For teaching these children Miss Ford received a $65.00 salary. From 1880 to 1886 the teacher was Alexander A. MacDonald. He received a supplement of $20.00 which was raised to 850.00 in his last year. He was succeeded by E. Lydia Mullally in the years 1887 and 1888. In 1889 the teacher was Hannah Mullally.
