Donald Beaton was born at East Point in 1816.192
He was the son of Alexander (Sandy) and Ann Beaten.195 Alexander Beaton was the son of Donald Beaton who settled at East Point in 1799. Donald had at least two brothers and two sisters. His sisters Flora and Maria married MacDonalds. Donald's brother Alexander married Eliza O'Leary.194 Alex operated the family farm where Donald was born as well as carry— ing out the duties of lighthouse keeper. Ronald, Donalds other bro— ther died unmarried.195 Donald received a district school education. He then re- ceived further training in Charlottetown. He then set up business in Souris as well as engaging in the herring fishery. He carried on this business until his death.196 His business was very profitable. He owned three acres and a house in Souris along with several other buildings. He owned 100 acres in Souris. He owned 50 acres of the
farm and dwelling house occupied by Angus (Neil) MacDonald. He own—
ed fishing gear and several vessels including the Jane. He held a
half interest in his father's 220 acre farm as well as several other

properties. On February 27,1854 Donald married Maria Clementine Sobieski
o MacDonald. She was the eldest daughter of Hon John Small I"IacDonald.1’8
