39 Donald Beaton served several terms in the House of Assem- bly for the Liberals including terms beginning in 1851 and 1863. JJ In 1840 he sat on a Committee of Charicy with George Coles , Joan Col - lings, W. Douse and Patrick Walker . He also served with Patrick 201 Walker as a Director of the Highland Society. He sat on the Leg- 202 islative Council in 1859* v **e was a Justice of the Peace and 203 served on the Souris Board of Health in 1854. Hon . Donald Beaton died on November 13,1865 at the age of 4-9 in Souris of diabetes. A newspaper account of his death des¬ cribed him as "a quiet, unassuming man, and his lass, as a merchant, ^04- will be felt by many".'" He was buried in St. Columba Cemetary . His vacant Assemblyman seat was won by Emmanuel MacEachern , his Tory 205 cousin from South Lake .
